giving project

The GC Youth would like to invite the entire GC family to join us in a giving project that will show love and generosity to children and families in inner-city Atlanta who could use a little help this Christmas. Read more for details and to learn how to get involved.

GIVING PROJECT DETAILS

Who: GC is partnering with AIM (Atlanta Inner-City Ministry) in their Hope 4 the Family initiative this holiday season.   AIM is a faith-based non-profit organization that provides much-needed resources to many in urban Atlanta who are living in poverty, struggling with addictions, and seeking spiritual guidance.  GC Youth have partnered with AIM the last few years for Hope 4 the Family, and we have led a session of AIM Kids Camp each summer for the last several years.
What: Our role in the Hope 4 the Family initiative is to purchase gifts – toys, clothes, books, etc. – that AIM will distribute to families in their community who have responded to an invitation.  These families have committed to attending a life skills seminar on the distribution day that will offer support and equipping to the families.  Afterward, they will be able to pick up these gifts to give to their children.
Why: This is a wonderful opportunity to show generosity to under-resourced families in a way that (1) allows families to give Christmas gifts to their children with dignity, (2) partners with a deeply-rooted, effective ministry in urban Atlanta, and (3) brings glory to God as His people learn to give like He gives.
When: All items need to be brought to Grace Chapel on Sunday, December 9.   Due to lack of storage capacity at Grace Chapel, please do NOT bring items before this date.
We may need help transporting all of the items to AIM at some point during the week following December 9, because the distribution day at AIM is the following Saturday, December 15.
Where: Bring donations to the Youth Room on Sunday, December 9.
How: These are ways you/your Small Group/your family/etc. can be involved:
  • Sponsor Children – Commit to provide gifts for one or more children – wish list is provided, and $75-100 is goal spending amount
  • Transportation – Drive your vehicle filled with gifts to deliver to AIM at Lakewood Church of Christ
  • Purchase Individual Gifts – Purchase individual gift items to supplement for additional children
  • Organize Items – Help organize items in Youth Room on collection week. Emma Biegelsen is serving as the coordinator for this project, and she may need some help organizing all of the donations as they arrive on Sunday, December 9.
  • Contributions – If you are in a position to give more money that will allow AIM leaders to advance their ministry, financial donations can be made to Atlanta Inner-City Ministry and given to Rocky to deliver to them.

NEXT STEPS:

Please contact Rocky Wyatt if you have any questions and also to commit how you/your Small Group/your family/etc. will get involved.
You will receive a reply from Rocky within 24 hours to confirm and to receive additional details, depending on which way you have decided to get involved.

Thank you for showing generosity for God’s glory!
