summer kickoff

Why:  Living in community with one another is such an important part of the discipleship process!  We really miss being together, so we want to gather, play, eat, pray, and worship together in safe, wise, fun ways.  At the same time, we also want to help protect one another from getting sick or from unknowingly spreading any viruses.  For that very important reason, we will follow guidelines to practice physical distancing, personal hygiene, and sanitation.  Keep reading for full details.

Who:  All GC Youth – anyone who just finished 6th-12th grades.  We move up to the new grade for all events & environments when the new school year begins in August, so those who will be moving into 6th grade will be invited to come to special events later in the summer.  The Youth Small Group Leaders will also be present to foster a safe, fun atmosphere.

What:  A fun outdoor party, while practicing safe physical distancing in our games – kickball, 4-square, cornhole, etc. – and large group gathering.

Where:  Grace Chapel Parking Lot.  The building will be open ONLY to access the bathrooms; everything else will happen outdoors.

When:  this Sunday, June 7, 6-9 PM

  • 6:00 PM  Free Time to Eat & Play Together.  What to bring:
    • Dinner – food will NOT be provided
    • Water Bottle – refilling station will be available outside
    • Chair/Blanket – for sitting while eating and during large group gathering in the parking lot
    • Face Covering – if you’re more comfortable wearing one when you’re around other people
  • 7:30 PM  Large Group Gathering.  This is the time we will come together to connect as a whole group, to get to know the Apprentices better, to get excited about the theme and some plans for summer, and to worship together.
  • 9:00 PM  Summer Kickoff Ends.

How (guidelines for safety at Summer Youth Night environments):

  • Parental Consent – Since we are communicating these guidelines in advance, this serves as parental consent for anyone 18 years old and younger to participate in this weekly GC Youth environment.  There is risk involved any time we interact with others outside our home, so you are accepting that risk by participating.  Because we love all Youth & their Families, we will do everything we can to minimize the risk of danger of any kinds; however, we also expect that families are having conversations about how to be safe, wise, and considerate of others, regardless of how you personally feel about the potential dangers.  Parents/Guardians, thank you for having these conversations with the young people in your family so that they can love others through their actions.
  • Check-in – Each person needs to come by the Welcome tent near the front doors of GC when you arrive to check-in.  This is the way we will have a record of everyone who is in attendance and contact info for their parents/guardians.
  • Physical Distancing – We will follow the social distancing measures to maintain a 6 ft. distance between people during all activities.
  • Face Covering – Participants are not required to wear a face mask while they are outdoors; however, we will encourage participants & volunteers to wear a face covering whenever they will be in close proximity to others for extended periods of time.
